I had a late September baby in 2020 and remember being obsessed with wearing one of my husband's old flannel shirts. It was very comforting to me and I didn't mind it getting stained with milk or spit up. 😇
38 weeks today with my second and these are fab picks! Curious how you navigate sizing. This pregnancy I was fully resistant to buying anything I wouldn’t be able to continue to wear into the future — and would love to continue that with pp picks. Particularly thinking about the Modern Citizen and Donni pants.
same page! with a lot of elastic-waist things i take my normal size and just roll the waistband down during pregnancy (that's what I do with the Modern Citizen pants). The Donni pants are a little long on me and insanely stretchy so I can wear the waistband over my bump or rolled under it
I like that you mention most of what you’ll need you probably already own. With my first baby I went a little too ham on breastfeeding-specific tops, which are pretty much unwearable later (they have weird flaps lol). With my second, I already knew that any button down would do, and I happen to own a lot because I just like button downs apparently. For when you’re just at home, just being in a bra, or wearing a loose tshirt you can easily pull up, works just fine. Use a claw clip to keep it in place - my favorite hack!
For when you’re in public, if you don’t want your whole abdomen exposed when pulling up a shirt, a nursing tank layered underneath comes in handy! So really you can wear almost any top you want as long as it isn’t super tight, or a specialty fabric
there was a comment on my baby registry post about how breastfeeding-specific clothing is kind of a scam and it made me laugh, mainly because of exactly what you've said here. i like the hack of wearing a nursing-friendly tank under a shirt that isn't as accommodating as a button down!!
Loved this! I have written a lot about my own postpartum dressing experiences—I feel like it’s a chapter of the pregnancy-to-motherhood style story that rarely gets coverage.
Some of my postpartum favourites were shibori dyed mesh shorts from Moon Mama (perfect for lounging in at home with a big button up) and Ridge Merino camisoles with a built in “shelf” (great for keeping nursing pads in place; merino is also A+ for avoiding milk stank).
Harling, do you have any recommended search terms for the button downs? I always really appreciate when you give us search terms… since your picks are so fire, they’re often gone soon after you post, so it’s helpful to have the tools to look for ourselves! Thank you in advance if you’d be willing to share :)
It’s an Indian handcrafted brand that uses the traditional method of hand block printing. Their boxer shirts, night wear and cotton dresses are a dream. And super affordable.
Love these pregnancy / postpartum emails, Harling. As a pregnant Australian girlie, I'm unreasonably excited to go to Old Navy when I visit family in Hawaii in June 😂
My husband’s clothes- specifically his button downs have never looked so appealing! Loose cardigans for sure and sneaking whatever comfy tanks underneath. Love this all, and the numerous nightgowns. 🥰due with my second early July.
Harling!! Just about 6 weeks postpartum here, and this round-up is so spot on! I'm shocked by the Old Navy nursing bras...adding those to my cart now!
your freshly postpartum approval means the world :)

SAME. I was in lots of hand me down button downs (a flannel one from my mom was a favorite) and it made me feel grounded to have their memory with me.

Those pants you’re wearing with the babaa cardigan - so cute 😍
Yes! Came here to say this! Curious if there is a link or any info for them!
they are very old from a small Danish brand that is sadly now defunct :(
