The Aritiza Wilfred Beso shirt -- I know it's polyester, but it looks just like silk, tons of colors, easy to handwash (or throw in a very delicate cycle in a mesh bag), often on sale, and just looks so sexy with jeans. x
Love this, Harling! I think there's something about buying clothes in a foreign city, clothes you actually need to wear there, that get transformed when you bring them home. You're not shopping abroad for something to wear at home. Your shopping for something you need abroad. It opens doorways. Xoxo
My Alexander Birman Clarita sneakers with shearling. They are the most comfortable and chicest kicks ever and wherever I am wearing them -- people stop and ask me about them. They are pricey but fabulous. I keep buying more for fear they will stop making them!
I have found I wear the tissue turtlenecks from j crew quite a lot through the winter months, they are the perfect (light) weight. Also! Please please do a maternity clothes review, I’d love to see your faves! <3
glad to hear that's something you'd be interested in reading because i have THOUGHTS. I'm actually writing a freelance piece about dressing while pregnant for another outlet right now, but I want to do a deep dive for Gumshoe on specific items at some point - probably after I give birth so I can come at it with a more complete perspective
Cole Haan penny loafers - they're so comfy, and add a men's wear twist when I pair with dresses to work. I like that I can tell myself I wear them for the lewk, when truly I wear them for the arch support and cushioned tread
I have the EXACT raincoat story! Traveled to Austria in October and didn’t bring a raincoat (like…what?) and so I popped into a random store to get one. It was Womens Day so all women got 40% off everywhere! I bought a subtly shapeless green raincoat and have worn it for years, garnering compliments every time.
I bought this pair of Sam Edelman loafers while I worked at JPMorgan (lol) and have worn them for over 4 years at this point. They have held up so well, work for every situation, and are comfortable enough to walk in New York in. The snake is better than some of the solid print ones just because it doesn’t look as much as a Gucci knockoff
I have a galamaar suit and I can confirm that it was and remains the best swimsuit I’ve ever purchased. It’s complimented my body at various sizes and has held up for multiple NorCal (aka windy and wavy ocean) summers
My sleeper hot item is the Christy Dawn Everly coat. Living in Massachusetts, I underestimated how often I would reach for a light-mid weight wool coat in spring and fall, even summer, compared to my heavy winter coats. It’s perfection, and I worry about replacing it someday because I wear it every single day. It goes with everything, and everyone who sees me in it comments that they want it. It’s unexpected magic.
Sleeper hot! Mine is a navy +J Uniqlo cropped wool jacket I bought around a year and a half ago. I thought it looked nice enough and wore it a couple times at first but THEN I brought it to my tailor and asked her to add a button and button hole to the tops of the lapels so I could wear it all the way buttoned up with the collar popped as a sort of turtleneck/jacket and now it is my most worn jacket from October through April (if I won't be outside for too long). It looks so chic.
Nike Air Max 96s! They are perfectly ugly dad shoes and the absolute best New York walking shoe I’ve ever owned. They go with every casual outfit and are sturdy but incredibly comfortable.
for me it is/was a black pair of bill blass easy fit jeans that i must've bought from a goodwill many many years ago. they couldn't have been more than $10, they fit me perfectly, i wear them near daily, and anytime my current pair starts to wear out or i begin to outgrow them, i just go to ebay and buy a replacement pair.
Uniqlo's heattech turtlenecks, I have 6 of the exact same black one (lol) and I wear them literally every day during the winter :)

Just chiming in to say these are my most favorite newsletters to receive!
means so much to me - thank you Jen <3

hi! I love your shorts, where are they from?
They're from Modern Citizen (sadly they don't make this particular style anymore though)

loafers that are actually comfortable enough to walk around New York in... immediate hall of fame status
💯agree! I have them in 4 shades/patterns

legitimately genius
You just may have made mine wearable! Thanks for the genius idea!

i saw a cream pair of these with a yellow stripe and haven't been able to get them out of my head

so nice you've been able to keep finding them (and so generous of you to share your search term - i'm definitely going to keep an eye out for these!)
